From October 12–14, She Soars participated in the 9th Annual Green the Church National Summit in Atlanta, Georgia. The event brought together pastors, community advocates, environmental leaders, and policymakers to talk about how Black churches can lead the way in building stronger, more sustainable communities. This year also celebrated 15 years of Green the Church’s national work in faith-based environmental justice.
The Summit featured inspiring speakers like Dr. Gerald Durley and Dr. Jamal Bryant, and introduced a new statewide goal to create five Church Resilience Hubs in Georgia that will feature EV charging, microgrids, and other green initiatives.
On opening day, She Soars hosted a table to share our mission of promoting mental health equity for Black girls and women. We connected with faith leaders, advocates, and community members interested in supporting mental health in their congregations. Our team shared the Faith-Based Mental Health Survey, developed with Emory University Master of Public Health students, to help shape the Pray And Initiative.
In partnership with the Metro Atlanta Ministerial Alliance (MAMA) and the Soul Shop Movement, the Pray And Initiative will provide free education, training, and tools for faith-based leaders to better recognize, discuss, and respond to mental health needs in their communities. Through this work, She Soars is helping bridge the gap between faith and mental health, promoting healing and resilience in Black communities.
Being part of the Green the Church Summit reminded us how important it is for faith-based, environmental, and public health organizations to work together to create lasting change. We left inspired and excited to keep building partnerships that center wellness, sustainability, and hope.
